Our Unique Earth Expo

BOOM! Bombs exploding, Crack flash! Lightning striking, Woosh! Tornadoes hitting, POP! Seasons changing. Yep you guessed it this is about ‘our Unique earth’.

The whole class had to each choose a disaster or something that affects the earths surface. Many people chose natural disasters, E.G. tornadoes, bush fires or lighting. Or man made disasters E.G. mining, nuclear radiation or human made bushfires. Mine was the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster. Pretty interesting.

My mum and Grandma came when it was time to present. I’m sure they loved it. Even lots of other parents came to listen they liked it too. I was happy with mine, it had lots of detailed info and when I was looking for facts even I learnt something about the Chernobyl diasaster I had no idea about. Even so it wasnt just the facts I learnt about. It was actually how to use the app I was making my presentation on. Like how to add special effects to the slides and even how to add text boxes. Ya see it wasn’t just the facts!

Hmm I’ve been noticing you’ve been chewing your nails. Why? Because all this stuff I’ve been talking about I haven’t shown you. And I bet you can’t wait to see it. Well what are you waiting for? Let’s get cracking!

Heres a link that put you onto my presentation below. Hope you like it! Also here’s some pics of my table

Card Board Car Regatta

Ok kids you have 2 hours to complete your cars after that you can’t do anything else. Yeah ok 2 hours sounds like a lot but… not when your making a decorative cardboard car. But luckily we accomplished the task. I couldn’t of done it without my 2 team members (Oliver M and Rachel), They were really helpful.

First we had to make a design and a team name (It had to include something about space). Our car was going to be a rocket with paper on the back as fire and earths as our weels. Our team name was the big BANG. We had to do a lot of measuring and teamwork.

The most important thing we had to measure was the weels so we cut them all the same size. Now not everyone can make a perfect circle so here’s some hacks to drawing perfect circles and measuring. For a good circle you can use the top of a glass or circular container then you get your pencil and draw around the outside of the container. BOOM now you’ve got a perfect circle! Now say you want your circle to be 20cm in diameter the you’d have to get your pin or dot in the middle and make the radius 10cm out then once you’ve done your circle ta da there’s your 20cm wide weel!

At the inside front of the car we had to add a few things. A steering weel (duh), a speedometer, a temperature gauge, a few levers and a race time (2:30). Our car was painted black with a fiery grill.

Race time! Every one was ready. We had Eden from the class next door join our  our group because we were one short and hers was to big. I think we did good but Ollie M was being a bit silly and when he got out of our car he tripped and tore it in half. After the race we decided to let Rachel take the car home NOT  Oliver. She said she would fix it. PHEWWWWWW!

Coach Approach

Who hoo coach approach! The footballs  flew through the air like a crazy flock of birds then crashing down like a damaged fighter jet and smashed into the bins with a thud. We cheered as we won the game. It was about precision. we were divided into small teams with a bin opposite us. To win you had to score 3 points. You got 1 point by hitting the front of the bin and 3 if it actually went in it.

Next we went over to ultimate frisbee run by Claire. She taught us how to catch a frisbee correctly (you snap like a crocodile) and how to throw it. You put your thumb on the top of the frisbee and the rest of your hands go on the bottom, then you whip it. We also played a tag game where when you get tagged you go in the catch motion so someone can save you by throwing you the frisbee.

Next we went over to hip hop in the performing arts room. Our coaches name was Elvic. I liked him because he had a good sense of humour he made some good jokes. We listened to a song that had really weird lyrics I can’t remember the song name or the Author but it was pretty cool. He taught us some different moves. One of them was stretching to your toes side to side. At the start you could make up any move you could. I’m happy that I didn’t dab (ps I HATE dabbing). I reckon hip hop was my favourite.

Next we did team work in the gym run by a lady called Taylah. We got into two groups and were put before a big sheet with squares on it we had to move from square to square in a certain way until we got to the end of the map. If you went on a wrong square you went to the back of the line. The only way you could go on the right squares was by memorising a map which you could only look at for only about ten seconds. The opposing team won. The main thing about that activity was communication and cooperation.

Next we did La crosse our coaches name was Brayden. The equipment you use is a ball and a metal pole with a plastic net on the end. You catch  the ball with your net on the ground then it rolls in. We didn’t do much my partner and I (Seth) just moved around and passed the ball to each other. We could only pass under arm.

Next was baseball yes baseball. There were a few problems about that one. 1 my glove was huge (I bet even a person the size of the multiverse and infinity would still have room!) our coaches name was Oliver. We learnt about how to pass the ball to someone. First you put the ball through your legs while holding it then next you roll it along. you catch it with a baseball glove. If you throw with your right hand then you put the glove on your left.

Today was full of adventure and sport and it was great to try new things.

My Digital Citizen

This is a short comic strip I made up about my digital citizen superhero and how he helped a person who had a virus on his computer.

I learnt that being a digital citizen means being Safe, Respectful, Responsibal. Like not giving away your password or believing everything you see on the web. Those are just a few things about a good digital citizen. I hope your one too.

Helan Radnedge

Today year four had a visit from Councillor Helen Radnedge. She talked to us about things like when she became a councillor, why she wanted to be one and why is she interested in the environment. Each class asked her about four questions each which she could answer but the main reason is so we could learn about having a say.

Her role at the council is history/environment protection. She thinks the wildlife is important because in a way they actually help us humans by pollinating fruit for example or eating bad insects. She also protects history and culture because they are things that let us look at Australia’s past before European settlement. She is inspired to do her job by the environment and talking to other council members to spread and talk about ideas. She cares about the environment and history because they are both important to Australia. Because if we had no environment the Macedon Ranges might as well be a huge city.

From Helen I’ve learnt more about persuasive writing than I used to know. I learnt that when you think something’s not right you should always have a say no matter what.

I feel passionate about picking up plastic bags and rubbish because even 1 single piece of rubbish can cause a lot of harm to the environment like pollution and animals like turtles and fish getting stuck in it.

Chocolate

this is a poem about chocolate I made. Everyone in the class made one. The poem you could make didn’t have to rhyme (mine didn’t). This is how you had to make the poem. At the start you wrote the important thing about chocolte is … (then you would write something), and at the end you write But the important thing about chocolate is… what you said at the start. (You would write something in between the start and the end as well though of course).

Here’s my poem, P.S hope you can read it!

My Presentation

My Mum understood it really well when I read it to her and my two teachers. I spoke in a nice clear voice. It wasn’t to long and it wasn’t to short. I liked how much work I did on it.

Next time I will put a tiny bit more into some of the slides when I’m working on it so the slides have about the same amount of writing.

At the start I was a tiny bit nervous but mostly fine in the end. During it I maybe could of spoke a bit louder. I wasn’t nervous or upset when I did my slide. My teachers seemed pretty interested when I talked through it.

in the end my Mum and teachers both said they really liked it because I had done a lot of writing and I seemed pretty coordinated too.IMG_0639-xyjldt

Kathryn Apel

Kathryn Apel visited our school. She talked about some of her books such as, Too many friends, Bully on the bus and on track. She lives on a farm in Queens land with her husband and two sons. She got the idea of Too many friends by having a talk with her friend and how she said her daughter said she had too many friends. She got the idea for Bully on the bus from when one of her sons came home from school and was upset. She asked why and he said that he’d been bullied by someone on the bus. She got the idea for On track by one of her sons liked running a lot and he went running mostly every day with a trainer so she decided to make a story about running. She likes poetry and has looked at lots of different types of poetry. I was surprised that there were so many different types of poetry!

Something I will do is to not play on the iPad and watch TV all day because there is a lot of other things you could do.
